Claudia Schiffer and Karl Lagerfeld (1992)

American model Claudia Schiffer walked her first show for Karl Lagerfeld when he was already the designer for Chanel. She later described the experience to an interviewer: ”Karl Lagerfeld said to me, ‘Don’t think about it, just walk out like you always walk.’”

Lagerfeld soon picked her to be the face of Chanel.

Kate Moss and John Galliano (with Naomi Campbell in 1996)

After she was discovered by the photographer Corinne Day, Kate Moss launched her fashion career at 15 years old when she appeared in a presentation for John Galliano‘s collection in 1989.

Galliano later selected her to appear in campaigns for Christian Dior. He went on to design her wedding dress in 2011.

Naomi Campbell and Gianni Versace (1997)

Naomi Campbell was deeply saddened when her dear friend Gianni Versace was killed 1997.

At the time, she shared her grief openly in the press.

Later on, she told reporters that Versace’s death had sent her into a tailspin of self-destructive behavior and drug use: ”That traumatised me . . . the way he was killed…I partied when I wanted to, burning the candles at both ends. It put me spiritually and emotionally on my knees.”

Rebecca Romijn and Tommy Hilfiger

Tommy Hilfiger pioneered the practice of leveraging celebrity relationships to help build a brand’s reputation, and Rebecca Romijn (Stamos) was a key player in the early days of Hilfiger. For two years, the high-profile model was the face of the Tommy Girl fragrance and also appeared in other campaigns for the brand.

Stephanie Seymour and Azzedine Alaïa

Stephanie Seymour started modeling for Azzedine Alaïa as a teenager, becoming his muse. In a 2001 interview, Seymour claimed that she wore his clothing almost every day, even when she was on a farm: ”His clothes are works of art. Yet they are feminine and wearable and sexy, and comfortable most of the time, though I care nothing for comfort.”

Cindy Crawford and Isaac Mizrahi (1995)

Cindy Crawford was a major scene-stealer in the popular 1990s documentary Unzipped, which followed designer Isaac Mizrahi‘s Fall 1994 collection runway show, at New York Fashion Week in Bryant Park. Crawford was heavily involved in the promotion of the film.

Donatella Versace and Helena Christensen (1996)

A campaign and runway model for Donatella as well as her now-deceased designer brother Gianni Versace, Danish model Helena Christensen maintains ties to the house of Versace to this day.
